In 1978, Festa Italiana launched, with about 15 booths constructed of colorful folding tables and filled with everything from Italian pastries, homemade dishes, and incredible vino. Wine flowed, music played, and the aroma of Italian food filled the air. Today, Festa Italiana is one of the largest ethnic festivals in the city – an event that attracts thousands of Houstonians! See it for yourself this Friday, October 11th!
The Italian Cultural & Community Center will host the 41st Annual Festa Italiana, which was founded with the mission of celebrating Italian culture and heritage in the city of Houston. The festival welcomes people from all backgrounds and walks of life to join in for a weekend defined by Italian culture, traditions, and food – and maybe a few glasses of wine!
This year’s activities will include a sidewalk art contest, an adult bocce tournament, a grape stomping contest, a pasta eating contest, and live music provided by DJ Italia, Tarantella Dancers, Shades of Gray, Vince King, The Fab 5, and University of Houston’s Moores Opera Center.
There will also be a long list of on-site vendors, selling everything from ceramics to arts and crafts, packaged food products, jewelry, home décor, and more. Commercial booths will include representatives from Cutco, Green Mountain Energy, Jim Adler and Associates, Resort Vacation Inc., T-Mobile, and more.
Proceeds from the Houston Italian Festival benefit several local non-profits including the Italian Cultural & Community Center, which provides numerous educational programs, scholarships and events throughout the year for all Houstonians to enjoy.
The energy of the Italian people is infectious – and for that reason, you know you’ll have a good time at the 41st Annual Festa Italiana! Admission ranges from $5 to $25. Free admission will be offered on October 11th until 4:00 p.m. For more information about the event, or to purchase tickets, visit www.houstonitalianfestival.com.
