Hankering for something delicious, but growing tired of the self-isolation cooking routine? We mean, you can only make enchiladas from scratch so many times, y’all! Good thing we live in the great city of Houston that has a food scene like no other! The downside of overload of scrumptious, diverse food? Sometimes, it’s difficult to decide where to spend your hard-earned money and sink your cashback into the community we love so much.
As we all know, restaurants need our support right now with COVID-19. So, if you’re searching for somewhere delicious, affordable, and in close proximity to Bayou Park Apartments, check out our list of suggestions below!
Pappa’s Bar-B-Q is a Houston legend, and it has multiple locations throughout the city, whether you’re in Downtown Houston on Smith Street or out in South Houston near Pearland. Although Pappa’s is slowly reopening during Phase II of federal regulations, they’ve always done some killer takeout if you feel safer sticking around your apartment home. Their BBQ is made from scratch daily, and you can have your fill of the classics, like their beef brisket, ribs, loaded baked potatoes, and jalapeno cheese bread. Best of all, Pappa’s is its very own restaurant group with restaurant selections varying from seafood and Mexican to the Mediterranean and good, ol’ fashioned Southern cooking.
Although Niko Niko’s doesn’t boast its own restaurant group, it’s definitely worth the stop if you’re in or around the Montrose area, or around its two other locations on Memorial/Spring Branch and Market Square. The Houston favorite has even been on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives with the lovable and enthusiastic, Guy Fieri. Right now, all of its locations are open for takeout and curbside pick-up, and you can still enjoy all of your favorites, including the Athenian Mushroom Burger, the Saganaki Cheese Sticks, and the Poseidon Seafood Platter. If you have a special dietary requirement, Niko Niko’s also offers a ton of gluten-free, low-fat, and vegetarian options!
House of Pies
We’ve all been here after a great night out in Downtown Houston! Making pies of all flavors and for all tastes since 1967, House of Pies is a Houston staple. Even in saying that, it’s still a bit of an understatement. House of Pies is where the Night Owls gather and the Sweet Tooths get “their fix.” Their most popular pies include the Bayou Goo, Buttermilk, Texas Pecan, and Key Lime. They also sell other goodies like brownies, muffins, and cheesecakes. Better yet, you can get hot plates to-go, like their classic Texas-style breakfasts, sandwiches, steaks, and more.
